Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah Davidís brother: and Jonadab was a
very subtil man.
Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and
make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray
thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight,
that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab, the son of Shimeah Davidís brother, answered
and said, Let not my lord suppose that they
have slain all the young men the kingís sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by
the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he
forced his sister Tamar.
Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the kingís sons

restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the
plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the
hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher.
the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence
of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so
he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish
from the presence of the LORD.
the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the
wares that were in the ship into the
sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he
lay, and was fast asleep.
they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know

he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of
the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he
might see what would become of the city.
the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it
to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to
deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east
wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in
himself to die, and said, It is better
for me to die than to live.
God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And
