Chapter 1:36 Verses

07 Judges

(K.J.V. 1611) .

07-1:1††††† Now after the death of Ioshua, it came to passe, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shal goe vp for vs against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

07-1:2††††† And the Lord sayd, Iudah shall goe vp: Behold, I haue deliuered the land into his hand.

07-1:3††††† And Iudah saide vnto Simeon his brother, Come vp with me into my lot, that wee may fight against the Canaanites, and I likewise will goe with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

07-1:4††††† And Iudah went vp, and the Lord deliuered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

07-1:5††††† And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites, and the Perizzites.

07-1:6††††† But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbes, and his great toes.

07-1:7††††† And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore & ten kings, hauing their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meate vnder my table: as I haue done, so God hath requited mee, and they brought him to Ierusalem, and there he died.

07-1:8††††† (Now the children of Iudah had fought against Ierusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the citie on fire)

07-1:9††††† And afterward the children of Iudah went downe to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt in the moutaine, & in the South, and in the valley.

07-1:10†††† And Iudah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron (nowe the name of Hebron before was Kiriath-arba) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

07-1:11†††† And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir, (& the name of Debir before was Kiriath-sepher)

07-1:12†††† And Caleb said, Hee that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I giue Achsah my daughter to wife.

07-1:13†††† And Othniel the sonne of Kenaz Calebs yonger brother tooke it: and he gaue him Achsah his daughter to wife.

07-1:14†††† And it came to passe when shee came to him, that she moued him to aske of her father a field: and shee lighted from off her asse, and Caleb said vnto her, What wilt thou?

07-1:15†††† And she said vnto him, Giue me a blessing: for thou hast giuen mee a South land, giue me also springs of water. And Caleb gaue her the vpper springs, and the nether springs.

07-1:16†††† And the children of the Kenite, Moses father in law, went vp out of the citie of palme trees, with the children of Iudah into the wildernesse of Iudah, which lieth in the South of Arad, and they went and dwelt among the people.

07-1:17†††† And Iudah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and vtterly destroyed it, (and the name of the citie was called Hormah.)

07-1:18†††† Also Iudah tooke Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

07-1:19†††† And the Lord was with Iudah, and hee draue out the inhabitants of the mountaine, but could not driue out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had charets of yron.

07-1:20†††† And they gaue Hebron vnto Caleb, as Moses saide: and hee expelled thence the three sonnes of Anak.

07-1:21†††† And the children of Beniamin did not driue out the Iebusites that inhabited Ierusalem: but the Iebusites dwel with the children of Beniamin in Ierusalem, vnto this day.

07-1:22†††† And the house of Ioseph, they also went vp against Bethel: and the Lord was with them.

07-1:23†††† And the house of Ioseph sent to descrie Bethel (now the name of the citie before was Luz)

07-1:24†††† And the spies sawe a man come forth out of the citie, and they said vnto him, Shew vs, wee pray thee, the entrance into the citie, and we will shew thee mercie.

07-1:25†††† And when hee shewed them the entrance into the citie, they smote the citie with the edge of the sword: but they let goe the man and all his familie.

07-1:26†††† And the man went into the lande of the Hittites, and built a citie, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof vnto this day.

07-1:27†††† Neither did Manasseh driue out the inhabitants of Bethshean, and her townes, nor Taanach and her townes, nor the inhabitants of Dor, and her townes, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her townes, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her townes: but the Canaanites would dwel in that land.

07-1:28†††† And it came to passe when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not vtterly driue them out.

07-1:29†††† Neither did Ephraim driue out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

07-1:30†††† Neither did Zebulun driue out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol: but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

07-1:31†††† Neither did Asher driue out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor Achzib, nor Helbath, nor Aphik, nor of Rehob:

07-1:32†††† But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not driue them out.

07-1:33†††† Neither did Naphtali driue out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath, but hee dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: neuerthelesse, the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, and of Bethanath, became tributaries vnto them.

07-1:34†††† And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountaine: for they would not suffer them to come downe to the valley.

07-1:35†††† But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aiialon, & in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Ioseph preuailed, so that they became tributaries.

07-1:36†††† And the coast of the Amorites was from the going vp to Akrabbim, from the rocke, and vpward.

Judges 2:

Chapter 2:23 Verses

07 Judges

(K.J.V. 1611) .

07-2:1††††† And an Angel of the Lord came vp from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to goe vp out of Egypt, and haue brought you vnto the land which I sware vnto your fathers, and I said, I will neuer breake my Couenant with you.

07-2:2††††† And yee shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land, you shal throw downe their altars: But ye haue not obeyed my voyce; Why haue ye done this?

07-2:3††††† Wherefore I also said, I will not driue them out from before you: but they shalbe as thornes in your sides, and their gods shalbe a snare vnto you.

07-2:4††††† And it came to passe when the Angel of the Lord spake these words vnto all the children of Israel, that the people lift vp their voice, and wept.

07-2:5††††† And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there vnto the Lord.

07-2:6††††† And when Ioshua had let the people goe, the children of Israel went euery man vnto his inheritance, to possesse the land.

07-2:7††††† And the people serued the Lord all the dayes of Ioshua, and all the dayes of the Elders that outliued Ioshua, who had seene all the great workes of the Lord, that hee did for Israel.

07-2:8††††† And Ioshua the sonne of Nun, the seruant of the Lord died, being an hundred and ten yeeres old.

07-2:9††††† And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-Heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the North side of the hill Gaash.

07-2:10†††† And also all that generation were gathered vnto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the woorkes which hee had done for Israel.

07-2:11†††† And the children of Israel did euil in the sight of the Lord, and serued Baalim:

07-2:12†††† And they forsooke the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselues vnto them, and prouoked the Lord to anger.

07-2:13†††† And they forsooke the Lord, and serued Baal and Ashtaroth.

07-2:14†††† And the anger of the Lord was hote against Israel, and he deliuered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

07-2:15†††† Whither soeuer they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for euill, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworne vnto them: and they were greatly distressed.

07-2:16†††† Neuerthelesse, the Lord raysed vp Iudges, which deliuered them out of the hand of those that spoyled them.

07-2:17†††† And yet they would not hearken vnto their Iudges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselues vnto them: they turned quickly out of the way, which their fathers walked in, obeying the Commandements of the Lord; but they did not so.

07-2:18†††† And when the Lord raised them vp Iudges, then the Lord was with the Iudge, and deliuered them out of the hand of their enemies, all the dayes of the Iudge (for it repented the Lord, because of their gronings by reason of them that oppressed them, and vexed them:)

07-2:19†††† And it came to passe when the Iudge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselues more then their fathers, in following other gods, to serue them, and to bow downe vnto them: they ceased not from their owne doings, nor from their stubborne way.

07-2:20†††† And the anger of the Lord was hote against Israel, and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my Couenant which I commanded their fathers, and haue not hearkened vnto my voice:

07-2:21†††† I also will not henceforth driue out any from before them of the nations which Ioshua left when he died:

07-2:22†††† That through them I may proue Israel, whether they will keepe the way of the Lord, to walke therein, as their fathers did keepe it, or not.

07-2:23†††† Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driuing them out hastily, neither deliuered he them into the hand of Ioshua.

Judges 3:

Chapter 3:31 Verses

07 Judges

(K.J.V. 1611) .

07-3:1††††† Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to prooue Israel by them, (euen as many of Israel as had not knowen all the warres of Canaan;

07-3:2††††† Onely that the generations of the children of Israel might know to teach them warre, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof:)

07-3:3††††† Namely fiue lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hiuites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon, vnto the entring in of Hamath.

07-3:4††††† And they were to prooue Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken vnto the Commandements of the Lord, which hee commaunded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

07-3:5††††† And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hiuites, and Iebusites,

07-3:6††††† And they tooke their daughters to be their wiues, and gaue their daughters to their sonnes, and serued their gods.

07-3:7††††† And the children of Israel did euill in the sight of the Lord, and forgate the Lord their God, and serued Baalim, and the groues.

07-3:8††††† Therefore the anger of the Lord was hote against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel serued Chushan-Rishathaim eight yeeres.

07-3:9††††† And when the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord, the Lord raised vp a deliuerer to the children of Israel, who deliuered them, euen Othniel the sonne of Kenaz, Calebs yonger brother.

07-3:10†††† And the Spirit of the Lord came vpon him, and he iudged Israel, and went out to warre, & the Lord deliuered Chushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand preuailed against Chushan-Rishathaim.

07-3:11†††† And the land had rest forty yeres: and Othniel the sonne of Kenaz died.

07-3:12†††† And the children of Israel did euill againe in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done euill in the sight of the Lord.

07-3:13†††† And hee gathered vnto him the children of Ammon, and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of Palme-trees.

07-3:14†††† So the children of Israel serued Eglon the King of Moab eighteene yeeres.

07-3:15†††† But when the children of Israel cried vnto the Lord, the Lord raised them vp a deliuerer, Ehud the sonne of Gera, a Beniamite, a man left handed: and by him the children of Israel sent a Present vnto Eglon the king of Moab.

07-3:16†††† But Ehud made him a dagger (which had two edges) of a cubite length, and he did gird it vnder his raiment, vpon his right thigh,

07-3:17†††† And he brought the present vnto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.

07-3:18†††† And when he had made an end to offer the Present, he sent away the people that bare the Present.

07-3:19†††† But hee himselfe turned againe from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I haue a secret errand vnto thee, O king: who said, Keepe silence. And all that stood by him, went out from him.

07-3:20†††† And Ehud came vnto him, and he was sitting in a Summer parlour, which hee had for himselfe alone: And Ehud said, I haue a message from God vnto thee. And he arose out of his seat.

07-3:21†††† And Ehud put forth his left hand, and tooke the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.

07-3:22†††† And the haft also went in after the blade: and the fatte closed vpon the blade, so that hee could not drawe the dagger out of his belly, and the dirt came out.

07-3:23†††† Then Ehud went forth through the porche, and shut the doores of the parlour vpon him, and locked them.

07-3:24†††† When he was gone out, his seruants came, and when they saw, that behold, the doores of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he couereth his feet in his Summer chamber.

07-3:25†††† And they taried till they were ashamed: and behold, he opened not the doores of the parlour, therefore they tooke a key, and opened them: and behold, their lord was fallen downe dead on the earth.

07-3:26†††† And Ehud escaped while they taried: and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped vnto Seirath.

07-3:27†††† And it came to passe when hee was come, that hee blew a trumpet in the mountaine of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went downe with him from the mount, & he before them.

07-3:28†††† And hee said vnto them, Follow after me: for the Lord hath deliuered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went downe after him, and tooke the foords of Iordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to passe ouer.

07-3:29†††† And they slewe of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour, and there escaped not a man.

07-3:30†††† So Moab was subdued that day vnder the hand of Israel: and the land had rest fourescore yeeres.

07-3:31†††† And after him was Shamgar the sonne of Anath, which slew of the Philistines sixe hundred men with an oxe goad, and he also deliuered Israel.

Judges 4:

Chapter 4:24 Verses

07 Judges

(K.J.V. 1611) .

07-4:1††††† And the children of Israel againe did euil in the sight of the Lord, when Ehud was dead.

07-4:2††††† And the Lord sold them into the hande of Iabin king of Canaan: that reigned in Hazor, the captaine of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

07-4:3††††† And the children of Israel cried vnto the Lord: for he had nine hundred charets of yron: and twentie yeres hee mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

07-4:4††††† And Deborah a prophetesse, the wife of Lapidoth, shee iudged Israel at that time.

07-4:5††††† And shee dwelt vnder the palme tree of Deborah, betweene Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came vp to her for iudgement.

07-4:6††††† And shee sent and called Barak the sonne of Abinoam, out of Kedesh-Naphtali, and said vnto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commaunded, saying, Goe, and drawe toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali, and of the children of Zebulun?

07-4:7††††† And I wil draw vnto thee to the riuer Kishon, Sisera the captaine of Iabins army, with his charets, and his multitude, and I will deliuer him into thine hand.

07-4:8††††† And Barak said vnto her, If thou wilt goe with me, then I wil goe: but if thou wilt not goe with mee, then I will not goe.

07-4:9††††† And she said, I wil surely go with thee, notwithstanding the iourney that thou takest, shal not be for thine honor: for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, & went with Barak to Kedesh.

07-4:10†††† And Barak called Zebulun, and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he went vp with ten thousand men at his feete: and Deborah went vp with him.

07-4:11†††† Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had seuered himselfe from the Kenites, and pitched his tent vnto the plaine of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

07-4:12†††† And they shewed Sisera, that Barak the sonne of Abinoam was gone vp to mount Tabor.

07-4:13†††† And Sisera gathered together all his charets, euen nine hundred charets of iron, and al the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, vnto the riuer of Kishon.

07-4:14†††† And Deborah said vnto Barak, Up, for this is the day in which the Lord hath deliuered Sisera into thine hand: Is not the Lord gone out before thee? so Barak went downe from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

07-4:15†††† And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his charets, and all his hoste with the edge of the sword, before Barak: so that Sisera lighted downe off his charet, and fled away on his feet.

07-4:16†††† But Barak pursued after the charets, and after the hoste vnto Harosheth of the Gentiles, and all the host of Sisera fell vpon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.

07-4:17†††† Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet, to the tent of Iael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace betweene Iabin the king of Hazor, and the house of Heber the Kenite.

07-4:18†††† And Iael went out to meete Sisera, and said vnto him, Turne in, my lord, turne in to me, feare not. And when hee had turned in vnto her, into the tent, shee couered him with a mantle.

07-4:19†††† And he said vnto her, Giue me, I pray thee, a litle water to drinke, for I am thirstie. And she opened a bottle of milke, and gaue him drinke, and couered him.

07-4:20†††† Againe he said vnto her, Stand in the doore of the tent, and it shall bee when any man doeth come and enquire of thee and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.

07-4:21†††† Then Iael Hebers wife, tooke a naile of the tent, and tooke an hammer in her hand, and went softly vnto him, and smote the naile into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: (for he was fast asleepe, and weary;) so he died.

07-4:22†††† And behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Iael came out to meet him, and said vnto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the naile was in his temples.

07-4:23†††† So God subdued on that day, Iabin the king of Canaan, before the children of Israel.

07-4:24†††† And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, & preuailed against Iabin the king of Canaan, vntill they had destroyed Iabin king of Canaan.

07-5:3††††† Heare, O ye kings, giue eare, O ye Princes: I, euen I will sing vnto the Lord, I wil sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

07-5:4††††† Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heauens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.

07-5:5††††† The mountaines melted from before the Lord, euen that Sinai, from before the Lord God of Israel.

07-5:9††††† My heart is toward the gouernours of Israel, that offered themselues willingly among the people: Blesse ye the Lord.

07-5:10†††† Speake yee that ride on white asses, yee that sit in Iudgement, and walke by the way.

07-5:11†††† They that are deliuered from the noise of Archers in the places of drawing water; there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, euen the righteous acts towards the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Lord goe downe to the gates.

07-5:12†††† Awake, awake Deborah: awake, awake, vtter a song: arise Barak, and leade thy captiuitie captiue, thou sonne of Abinoam.

07-5:17†††† Gilead abode beyond Iordan: and why did Dan remaine in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches.

07-5:18†††† Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that ieoparded their liues vnto the death, in the high places of the field.

07-5:19†††† The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo, they tooke no gaine of money.

07-5:20†††† They fought from heauen, the starres in their courses fought against Sisera.

07-5:21†††† The riuer of Kishon swept them away, that ancient riuer, the riuer Kishon: O my soule, thou hast troden downe strength.

07-5:22†††† Then were the horse hoofes broken, by the meanes of the pransings, the pransings of their mightie ones.

07-5:23†††† Curse ye Meroz (said the Angel of the Lord ) curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof: because they came not to the helpe of the Lord, to the helpe of the Lord against the mighty.

07-5:24†††† Blessed aboue women shal Iael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be aboue women in the tent.

07-5:30†††† Haue they not sped? haue they not diuided the pray to euery man a damosell or two? To Sisera a pray of diuers colours, a pray of diuers colours, of needle worke, of diuers colours of needle worke on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoile?

07-5:31†††† So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that loue him, be as the Sunne when he goeth foorth in his might. And the land had rest fourtie yeeres.

07-6:2††††† And the hand of Midian preuailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites, the children of Israel made them the dennes which are in the mountaines, and caues, & strong holds.

07-6:3††††† And so it was when Israel had sowen, that the Midianites came vp, & the Amalekites, & the children of the East, euen they came vp against them,

07-6:4††††† And they encamped against them, and destroyed the encrease of the earth, till thou come vnto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheepe, nor oxe, nor asse.

07-6:5††††† For they came vp with their cattell and their tents, and they came as Grashoppers for multitude, for both they and their camels were without number: and they entred into the land to destroy it.

07-6:6††††† And Israel was greatly impouerished, because of the Midianites, and the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord.

07-6:7††††† And it came to passe when the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord, because of the Midianites,

07-6:8††††† That the Lord sent a Prophet vnto the children of Israel, which said vnto them; Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you vp from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage,

07-6:9††††† And I deliuered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of al that oppressed you, and draue them out from before you, and gaue you their land:

07-6:10†††† And I said vnto you, I am the Lord your God, feare not the gods of the Amorites in whose land ye dwel: But ye haue not obeyed my voice.

07-6:11†††† And there came an Angel of the Lord, and sate vnder an Oake which was in Ophrah, that pertained vnto Ioash the Abi-Ezrite: and his sonne Gideon threshed wheat by the winepresse, to hide it from the Midianites.

07-6:12†††† And the Angel of the Lord appeared vnto him, and said vnto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mightie man of valour.

07-6:13†††† And Gideon said vnto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord bee with vs, why then is all this befallen vs? and where be all his miracles which our fathers tolde vs of, saying, Did not the Lord bring vs vp from Egypt? But now the Lord hath forsaken vs, and deliuered vs into the hands of the Midianites.

07-6:14†††† And the Lord looked vpon him, and said, Goe in this thy might, and thou shalt saue Israel from the hand of the Midianites: haue not I sent thee?

07-6:15†††† And hee said vnto him, Oh my lord, wherewith shall I saue Israel? Behold, my family is poore in Manasseh, and I am the least in my fathers house.

07-6:16†††† And the Lord said vnto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites, as one man.

07-6:17†††† And he said vnto him, If now I haue found grace in thy sight, then shew me a signe, that thou talkest with me.

07-6:18†††† Depart not hence, I pray thee, vntil I come vnto thee, and bring forth my Present, and set it before thee. And hee saide, I will tary vntill thou come againe.

07-6:19†††† And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and vnleauened cakes of an Ephah of floure: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out vnto him vnder the oake, and presented it.

07-6:20†††† And the Angel of God sayd vnto him, Take the flesh, and the vnleauened cakes, and lay them vpon this rocke, and powre out the broth. And he did so.

07-6:21†††† Then the Angel of the Lord put foorth the end of the staffe that was in his hand, and touched the flesh, and the vnleauened cakes, and there rose vp fire out of the rocke, and consumed the flesh and the vnleauened cakes: then the Angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.

07-6:22†††† And when Gideon perceiued that hee was an Angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God: for because I haue seene an Angel of the Lord face to face.

07-6:23†††† And the Lord said vnto him, Peace be vnto thee, feare not, thou shalt not die.

07-6:24†††† Then Gideon built an Altar there vnto the Lord, and called it Iehouah shalom: vnto this day it is yet in Ophrah, of the Abi-Ezrites.

07-6:25†††† And it came to passe the same night, that the Lord said vnto him, Take thy fathers yong bullocke, euen the second bullocke of seuen yeeres old, and throw downe the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut downe the groue that is by it:

07-6:26†††† And builde an Altar vnto the Lord thy God vpon the top of this rocke, in the ordered place, and take the second bullocke, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the groue, which thou shalt cut downe.

07-6:27†††† Then Gideon tooke ten men of his seruants, and did as the Lord had said vnto him: And so it was because hee feared his fathers houshold, and the men of the city, that he could not doe it by day, that hee did it by night.

07-6:28†††† And when the men of the citie arose earely in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast downe, and the groue was cut downe that was by it, and the second bullocke was offered vpon the altar that was built.

07-6:29†††† And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the sonne of Ioash hath done this thing.

07-6:30†††† Then the men of the citie said vnto Ioash, Bring out thy sonne, that he may die: because he hath cast downe the altar of Baal, and because hee hath cut downe the groue that was by it.

07-6:31†††† And Ioash said vnto all that stood against him, Will ye pleade for Baal? will ye saue him? He that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilest it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himselfe, because one hath cast down his altar.

07-6:32†††† Therefore on that day hee called him Ierubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because hee hath throwen downe his altar.

07-6:33†††† Then all the Midianites, and the Amalekites, and the children of the East were gathered together, and went ouer, and pitched in the valley of Iezreel.

07-6:34†††† But the Spirit of the Lord came vpon Gideon, and hee blewe a trumpet, and Abiezer was gathered after him.

07-6:35†††† And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, who also was gathered after him, and hee sent messengers vnto Asher, and vnto Zebulun, and vnto Naphtali, and they came vp to meete them.

07-6:36†††† And Gideon said vnto God, If thou wilt saue Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

07-6:37†††† Beholde, I will put a fleece of wooll in the floore: and if the deaw be on the fleece onely, and it bee drie vpon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt saue Israel by my hande, as thou hast said.

07-6:38†††† And it was so: for he rose vp early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the deaw out of the fleece, a bowle full of water.

07-6:39†††† And Gideon said vnto God, Let not thine anger
